Golden Girls loses another star.
What would pop culture be without the sassy and confident Blanche Devereaux? As one-fourth of the Golden Girls, Rue McClanahan was a master at bringing the character to life. Her southern charm and quick wit made the Golden Girls one of the favorite shows of my youth.
The mother to one son was born Eddi-Rue McClanahan in Oklahoma. Before embarking on a stellar career in stage and television, McClanahan graduated with honors with a degree in German and theater arts. An off-Broadway and stage career landed her the best friend role in “Maude” starring Beatrice Arthur, and the rest is history.
The breast cancer survivor suffered a massive stroke and passed away at the age of 76.
